As the daughter of Pakistani immigrants and a sibling to a brother on the autism spectrum, I’ve always been deeply passionate about issues of racial, legal, economic, and educational inequities. Understanding early on that everything is political, I’ve dedicated myself to a journey of exploring social structures and their impacts through various advocacy and research efforts.
I grew up in Northern Virginia, actively engaging local political bodies and even representing my high school on a student board alongside the PWCS school board.
Thanks to the support of generous financial aid, I attended the University of Virginia and graduated a year early with Highest Distinction. At UVA, I served as the legislative director for the student council, where I transformed our lobbying efforts from a focus on federal issues to local and state matters, boosting student influence in policy-making. I also participated in UVA’s Politics Distinguished Majors Program, where I dedicated a full year to independently researching and writing a 100+ page thesis on prison labor in Virginia. This dive into policy linkages sparked an interest in exploring how policies intricately shape our everyday lives in ways that we often don’t realize.
That passion led me to the Legal Aid Justice Center, where I focused on legislative strategies and policies through coalitional and community work. I transitioned to serving as a seasonal legislative aide during Virginia’s 2024 session, where I dissected valuable insights into insider politics and the parliamentary procedures of the state legislature.
Now, as I set my sights on law school, I’m focused on expanding my Congressional comprehension. With a complex curiosity for maneuvering the political arena, I aim to become an expert in crafting influential policies and innovative legislative frameworks.
